Professional Background and Training

I am a licensed psychologist with a private practice in Bethesda, Maryland. I earned my Ph.D. and M.A. in counseling psychology from the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship focusing on cognitive behavioral treatment for posttraumatic stress, depression, and suicidality in military personnel at Uniformed Services University (USU) and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

I had additional postdoctoral training in long-term interpersonal therapy and therapeutic dream work at the Maryland Psychotherapy Clinic and Research Lab at UMCP. My predoctoral internship was at the Center for Counseling and Student Development at the University of Delaware. I have been a staff counselor at the University of Maryland Counseling Center and have provided psychotherapy and assessment supervision for doctoral students at UMCP and postdoctoral fellows at USU.

In addition, I have been actively engaged in psychotherapy research for more than 15 years and am familiar with the state-of-the-science research on psychological trauma treatment and interpersonal psychotherapy. I currently am researching treatments for traumatic stress symptoms, with a particular focus on nightmares and sleep disturbance and have adapted a three-stage model specifically for treating these symptoms.
